Cialis (Tadalafil)
Cialis – What is it?Cialis is the brand name of the drug tadalafil, which is a popular drug used for erectile problems. The drug is a very close competitor of sildenafil (Viagra) but has not been able to reach the popularity and the cult status of the latter because Viagra was the first product of this kind that was invented. Though Cialis has a different chemical component than Viagra, its purpose and the mechanism of action is similar. A great benefit with Cialis vis-à-vis Viagra is that its effects remain for a total of 36 hours and not just 2 hours as it is with Viagra. That is the reason Cialis is nicknamed as the ‘weekend pill’. The brand name of Cialis is owned by Eli Lilly and Company.Like Viagra, Cialis is also used for other disorders apart from erectile dysfunction. The drug is used for pulmonary arterial hypertension and some other disorders. However, the drug is available only under prescription. Generic forms of Cialis, though widely advertised through the Internet, are not the real tadalafil tablets. Generic Cialis is legally not available.
Cialis – How does it work? The mechanism of action of Cialis is very much similar to that of Viagra. It is also an inhibitor of the enzyme phosphodiesterase enzyme. In order to understand this mechanism of action, it is ideal to have an overview first of how the penis becomes erect. The penis contains two main spongy tissue chambers known as the corpus cavernosa. When these chambers are filled with blood, an erection takes place. The blood is brought into the corpus cavernosa through an artery known as the penile artery. In some men, the flow of blood does not take place in the right manner; these are the men in which erectile problems begin to occur. When a man is aroused, the brain sends signals to the neurotransmitters present in the penile region. These neurotransmitters then make the smooth muscles of the penile artery get completely relaxed. This causes their expansion, due to which the blood begins to flow via them to the corpus cavernosa. At the same time as the erection, an enzyme begins acting on these neurotransmitters, which is the phosphodiesterase that was mentioned earlier. This enzyme benumbs the neurotransmitters, which then results in the reversal of the whole process and the erection is lost. In men who cannot sustain their erections, the enzyme phosphodiesterase is released quite early and that is why their erection, even if it happens, subsides quickly, which makes it unsuitable for penetrative sex. In some other men with erectile dysfunction problems, the concentration of phosphodiesterase is so high from the start that the erection does not occur at all. The action of Cialis is to inhibit the production (or lower the concentration) of phosphodiesterase so that it is not available to act for reversing the erection. In this manner, it can correct some erection problems in men and make them capable to have sexual penetration.
Cialis – What’s the Correct Dosage? As with other prescription medications, the correct dosage of Cialis also depends on the instructions of the healthcare professional handling the treatment. The dosage is different for different people depending on various factors such as their age, their lifestyle and eating habits, their overall health and the presence of other medical conditions for which they may be taking other medications. The dosage of Cialis is usually a tablet of 10 milligrams meant to be taken an hour before participating in the sexual intercourse. The normal minimum time for the effects of the tablet to begin showing is 1 hour but in some people, the effects can be shown earlier too. The effects usually remain for a period of 36 hours after the tablet is taken. Healthcare providers do customize the dosage as per the progress of the user. If the user shows better responsiveness with Cialis, the dosage may be reduced. On the other hand, if immediate effects are not shown, the dosage may be increased also. However, such adjustment of dosage must be done only at the suggestion of a qualified healthcare practitioner. In any case, the dosage of Cialis must never be increased beyond 20 milligrams. There is also a daily program with Cialis. When this medication is taken on an everyday basis, the suggested dosage is 2.5 milligrams a day, but it can be increased depending on the user’s responsiveness. It is important to have the medication at the same time each day. With daily treatment, the dosage of Cialis must never be increased beyond 5 milligrams each day.
Cialis – What are the Side-Effects?Cialis adjusts with most people’s bodies quite well. The drug can be used without much fear of side-effects, if the suggested dosage is maintained. Even if side-effects occur, they are not serious and most users overcome them quite easily. The percentage of people who quit using Cialis because it causes undesirable side-effects in them is much lower than for Viagra. There are a very few side-effects that might require medical attention immediately. The following is a list of these ‘serious’ side-effects of Cialis:-
The following are the side-effects which are not serious and subside as soon as the usage of Cialis is stopped:-
